origami closed-form objects

My “origami” series of works are originally inspired by the art of Japanese paper folding. The ridges are analogous to folds, and the ultra-thin translucent porcelain material is reminiscent of a paper texture with a little bit of tooth. This is the jumping off point for a family of objects that share the quality of repetitive creases that define these forms.

Although my entry into the origami series began with open-form vessel-centric works, this gallery will give you a sense of some of my closed forms. This is my current focus for new works in the origami series.

As with all of my current work, these are (cone 5) unglazed translucent porcelain.
